Abigal Clancy became a fully fledged WAG after it was confirmed she was dating England and then Liverpool footballer Peter Crouch, making her an integral part of the England team's WAG circus which surrounded the World Cup campaign in Germany in 2006.

Cheryl Tweedy began dating England and Chelsea footballer Ashley Cole in 2004, and they announced their engagement after he proposed in Dubai in 2005. Following tabloid reports of marital issues and allegations of Ashley's infidelity with more than five women, news broke that Cheryl had announced her separation from the football star in late February 2010. She is a perceived as a national treasure and fashion icon, with Simon Cowell stating 'She must be the most popular person on TV'.

The former Miss Ireland contestant, who has a double first in Economics and Finance, is married to ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane. At their wedding, she walked down the aisle of St Alphonus and Columba Church in Ballybrack, Dublin, where she was rumoured to have popped on a wedding band to go with her £80,000 engagement ring.

Coleen Rooney epitomizes the fairytale dream. From chav to couture, she left school at the tender age of 16 to begin life as a WAG to one of England's top footballers Wayne Rooney, single-handledly defining the term 'chav chic'. Now married to Manchester United and England footballer Rooney, the couple share a daughter Kai Wayne Rooney, who was born in late 2009.

Danielle Lloyd is best known as a model and glamour girl. She qualified as a beautician, but it had always been her dream to join the modelling ranks. Danielle first came to our attentions after winning Miss England in 2004 and competing in Miss World as a result. In 2007 Lloyd appeared in that year's series of 'Celebrity Big Brother'. Danielle has modelled for many lads magazines, including FHM. She dated Teddy Sheringham, but has also been linked with Marcus Bent, Jermain Defoe and Jamie O'Hara.

Spanish beauty Elen Rives is a former model, who first met Chelsea star Frank Lampard back in April 2002. They have now separated, but have two children together, Luna (born 22 August 2005) and Isla (20 May 2007). It was reported in October 2009 that the 34-year old had been in talks with Ultimo Lingerie, and was all set to become the new face for the brand.

Melanie Slade is the girlfriend of Arsenal and England star Theo Walcott. She first rose to fame when the then teenager Theo was chosen to join up with the England team for the FIFA World Cup in Germany in the summer of 2006. It is believed she had first met Theo while working for Claire's Accessories in her home town of Southampton in 2005. Melanie is not your typical WAG, as she is still attending Georges University of London - one of London's best known medical schools - where she is a physiotherapy student.

Victoria is probably the most famous WAG of all. Born in Hertfordshire in April 1974, she trained to become a professional dancer at the Laine Theatre Arts Dance College in Epsom. Soon after she grabbed her big breakthrough when she was chosen to become one of the 'Spice Girls', and the group shot to fame in 1996 with their debut single 'Wannabe', which reached number 1 in 31 countries. Victoria of course went on to marry one of the most famous stars in world football, David Beckham.
