Phil Barnes
Sheffield United reserve keeper signed as a replacement for Steve Mildenhall. Barnes joins Grimsby with a reasonable understanding of the game having played for Rotherham United, Queens Park Rangers, Torquay United and Blackpool aswell as the Blades.

Barnes started his professional career at Rotherham United's YTS and was first added to the Millers squad at the start of the 1996/1997 season. After making 2 senior apperances in his first season at Milmoor, he was snapped up by Blackpool for £100,000 for the start of the following season. Barnes went on to play 160 times for Blackpool between July 1997 and June 2004. is next port of call was Sheffield United where he moved to Neil Warnock's side on a free transfer.

Phil found it tough going with The Blades and took up a roll as sub keeper and understudy to Paddy Kenny, ,making only 5 apperances in his 2 year stay. Barnesy also spent time on loan with Torquay United and Queens Park Rangers before his summer move to Grimsby.
