Tom Newey
Russell Slade added young gun Tom Newey to the squad in July 2005, after leaving relegated Cambridge United. The 23 year old Sheffield born left back started his career of with Leeds United when they were Premiership big boys.

Newey progressed into the first team at the start of the 2001/2002 season, but limited first team chances over clouded his prospects of staying at Elland Road, and after 1 year, the youngster was released without making a first team apperance.

The only football Newey mainly got while at Leeds were two loan spells to Cambridge United and Darlington.

In July 2003 Leyton Orient signed him on a free transfer, and the player made over 50 apperances for Orient before moving back to Cambridge United intially on loan in January 2005, before moving permanently in March. With Cambridge struggling on and off the pitch, it was no suprise to see Newey and the other top players at the club leave after they finished bottom of the league and were relegated to the Conference.

Tom's first season with Grimsby was a promissing one, battling with veteran Gary Croft  for the first choice left back spot. Tom has cemented himself in at Grimsby and is one of the clubs better players.
