Paul for Grimsby!
Defender Paul Futcher was signed as a last ditch replacement for Andy Tilson who had been flogged to QPR. Futcher was in the rotting pack in the Halifax Town reserves and swas signed by Town boss Alan Buckley for £10,000

It was outstanding what we got, Futcher mastered the game superbly at Grimsby, he ran rings round players half his age and helped Town earn promotion and layed the foundations for seasons to come

After a fall out with Brian Laws, Futch left to become a manager and took charge of Southport which ended in a sacking. The Town legend also tried his luck with Stalybridge Celtic.
