Tony Gallimore

Tony for Grimsby!
In other circumstances Tony would of not touched the Cult Hero section because he was not really a hero at the club, neither did the fans ever really take to him. However left back Gallimore gave the majority of his career to The Mariners and was a solid figure in the 97/98 season along side McDermott,Handyside and Lever.

Gally started his career at Stoke City in 1990 and stayed at the Britania Stadium up until 1993. Gally was not a regular at Stoke and played only 11 games with The Potters in a 3 year period. While at Stoke, Gally was loaned to Carlisle United twice, and made 8 apperances both times round, more than he ever made at parent club Stoke.

In 1993 however Gallimore made Carlisle his parent club by signing a 1 year deal with the Cumbrian club. Gallimore found himself well fitted in at Carlisle and made over 150 apperances for the club. Gally stayed at Carlisle until 1996 when he made a move to Blundell Park for £125,000. Gally played in the late stages of the 95/96 season and impressed.

Gallimore stayed with Town the following season and was the main left back in the 96/97 season when the club were relegated to the second division. Tony stayed with Grimsby up until the end of the 2002/2003 season and by that time was singled out by The Mariners faithful as a lazy player who likes his drink.

In the summer of 2003, Gally trialed with rivals Barnsley along with former Mariner defender Peter Handyside, and both of them earned a contract. However it was to be a short stay at Oakwell for Gally with Barnsley releasing the left back after a year at the club.

In that memorable year came the 0-0 draw at Oakwell, former Barnsley left back Darren Barnard, now with Grimsby fouled Dean Gorre, and Former Grimsby left back Tony Gallimore, now with Barnsley stepped up to attempt to prove the taunting travelling fans what he can do. Suprise,Suprise Gally missed knocking the ball straight into Aidan Davisons arms.

Rochdale signed Gally in summer 2004 and yet again the player had to cause another attemptive blow at Grimsby, this time starting a fight with Town striker Michael Reddy, however Gally was booked and the chants continued. Not really a hero but did do a good service to the club at times.
