Speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph, manager Russell Slade spoke of Anderson's departure.
"Iain spoke to me and said he was looking to go north. This move is an ideal opportunity for him to that this summer in time for the new season," he said.
Anderson made 33 apperances for Town, scoring six goals.
