The Welsh international suffered bruising on his foot last weeked at Barnsley and was regarded a high risk for the trip to Nene Park.

On Thursday the player claimed he was ready to declare himself fit and save Paul Groves a defensive headache. However after failing to train all week, Barnard was told he wouldn't be put in the squad and risk worsening the injury.

Jason Crowe is almost certain to play in his place at leftback. But with Tony Crane suspended, Paul Groves will now face a selection headache as to who partners Mike Edwards.

Rookie Greg Young appears to be favourite, but with the Doncaster born lad taking a knock in the Scunthorpe game, Groves may play himself.
