X-rays cleared up those worries but the Welsh cap was a major doubt for the Mariners first ever trip to Nene Park.
The 31-year-old has now revealed that he's confident of being fit in time for Saturday.
"I'm pretty confident I'll be playing," Barnard told BBC Radio Humberside.
"Obviously it's been really badly bruised, it completely doubled in size over the weekend.
"It's just been a case of icing it and trying to bring the swelling down and hopefully that should be OK for Saturday.
