With two consecutive Saturdays without a game, manager Paul Groves opted to invite Neil Thompson's men for the short journey North. The former Ipswich defender was more than happy to take part, Boston's game against Hull at the weekend was also rained off.

Town named more or less a first choice team. Lee Thorpe partnered Michael Boulding up front and despite some good approach work, neither broke the deadlock.

Town's best chance saw Phil Jevons bring a fine save from former Town stopper Steve Croudson in the second half.

Another old boy, Ben Chapman, played 60 minutes against his first club.
