Butterfield in the Prem

24-year-old Butterfield left Blundell Park for Palace in the summer of 2002 for a free transfer, following a contract cock up on Town's behalf. Just 12 months earlier Town had rejected a £1million bid from the same club.

Butterfield in his Town days
Butterfield's time at Town was mixed. After arriving on the scene as a highly rated right-back, who kept a peak John McDermott on the bench for several games, to a struggling central midfielder.

His best form came in his final season when moved onto the right wing by Paul Groves. There Butterfield's non-stop running was more effective and his creativy shone.

At Palace the Boston native started in midfield before settling into the rightback slot, a position he struggled with during his final years at Blundell Park.

Butterfield played 48 of Palace's 49 league games this season, having played all 46 last season.

Neil Shipperley's second half winner completed a dramatic turnaround in fortunes for Palace under Iain Dowie with the Eagles now set to take on the cream of English football next season.

Well done Danny!
