Woking's hopes of reaching the Conference play-offs have been dented in recent weeks and Cockerill, brother of Town legend John, is hoping the free transfer of Cornwall will give his side a boost.

Cornwall was Town's saviour in the 2000/01 season after signing on loan from Fulham. In his nine games with Town he hit four goals to help the Mariners avoid relegation.

Then manager Lennie Lawrence was keen to sign the striker in the following summer, but opted to buy Phil Jevons from Everton instead.

Last summer Cornwall moved from Fulham to Bradford on a free transfer, ironically he was signed by current Town boss Nicky Law. His time in West Yorkshire has proved unsuccessful though with just 3 apperances, none under current boss Bryan Robson.

It was Robson who told the 23-year-old he was free to leave, with Woking soon coming in for him.
