Coulson, 22, is injured with a bruised ankle but was still one of 16 players Paul Fairclough selected to face Wales next week.
"It's a surprise because I've been injured but I'm hoping I will be all right by then. Hopefully I can get on the pitch if I do go down and do myself justice," he told the Grimsby Telegraph.
"I'm proud as punch - to get to wear an England shirt at any level. Hopefully my ankle will be okay and I can go and do myself and Grimsby Town proud.
"The aim then is to force my way into the team for the competitive games."
