Cup heartbreak for Town old boy

Hargreaves came through the Town setup in the late 1980's as a promising striker under Alan Buckley.

The Cleethorpes born player failed to establish himself with his hometown club and moved on a free transfer to Hull before spells with West Brom, Hereford and Plymouth.

During that time he reinvented himself as a holding midfielder and moved to Sixfields in the summer of 2000. Since that move Hargreaves has been a regular in the Cobblers midfield.

With his team 1-0 down, to a Mikael Silvestre goal, as the second half kicked off, Hargreaves' attempt to clear a corner badly backfired as the ball stumbled into his own net.

Despite the setback the 31-year-old battled on and was arguably the 3rd Division outfit's star man with a committed performance up against England international Nicky Butt.

Diego Forlan made it 3-0 with 22 minutes to go.
