Davo leaves Town

Davison held talks with Russell Slade today regarding his future at the club, with the outcome that his at Blundell Park was no longer there.

The veteran returned to Grimsby last summer following a highly successful first spell between 1997 and 1999. However the Northern Ireland international failed to recapture his form of old and at times his attitude was questioned by the fans.

Davison had a year left to run on his contract but agreed the termination with Slade and chairman Peter Furneaux.

Before his departure Davison left the following message via the official website:

"Primarily I was after a fresh challenge and wasn't really looking forward to playing in the third division, although that was not the overriding factor.
"I feel that Grimsby Town as a club needs some fresh faces. I'm a little disappointed not to be working with Russell Slade again as I have previously been with him at Sheffield United but that wasn't meant to be.

" I've had two spells with the club and would like to thank the supporters and people of Grimsby for making me and my family so welcome over the time that we have been at the here. Last year was a difficult time for everybody connected with the club but credit to the fans as they stuck by us all the way.

"It's a new era now for the Mariners and Russell is the man to take the club
forward and I wish him every success."

Whilst it is easy to remember Davison for his struggles last season, I personally would prefer to remember the dominant 'keeper from six years ago who formed the best back five I've seen since supporting Town.

At GrimsbyMad we wish Aidan the best for the future.
