Edwards was brought in by Paul Groves last summer on a free transfer as defensive cover following his release from Colchester.

The former Hull City man soon found himself a regular in the Town team and emerged as one of the few brights lights from an otherwise disappointing season.

The Magpies, who finished below Town in the relegation places, offered Edwards a three-year contract. Town in return offered a 12-month deal.
