Speaking after the game, Groves told Mariners Net of his embarrassment at the night's performance and apologised to the fans.

I'm totally embarrassed, I must apologise to the fans, I felt it was a disgrace,"
Groves said.

"I haven't been evolved in anything like that in my time playing football and I can only apologise. That was unacceptable.

"I have to accept responsibility for that, and I would like to apologise to the fans that made the journey here tonight and to the fans sitting at home.

Groves went onto say that he was under no illusions that his defence collapsed in a shameful manner.

"I think every time the ball went in the box we didn't handle their two forwards. As the game went on they were sliding things through, they were running off people and getting shots off at will. "I have to take responsibility," he said.

"The players have to take responsibility to do their own jobs. When the balls come into the box, it is up to the people in there to mark people and not allow them space in and around the box.

"Every time the ball went in and around our box, it was
virtually a goal. In the end people are walking around with their heads down and there's no mental strength, and it was embarrassing in the end.

With the Swindon game on Tuesday, Groves threatened that he is ready to draft in the kids ahead of his failing senior professionals.

"We might have to draft in one or two kids, because the kids will have a bash at it - that was unacceptable. That's one of the worse performances I've seen from a Grimsby side and I'm responsible."
