Groves linked with Cardiff striker

Groves is still in the market for a frontman having admitted that Laurens Ten Heuvel is not the solution. The Dutchman failed to make much of an impact before Jonny Rowan took his place in the team.

BBC Radio Humberside reporter John Tondeur yesterday said on air that he had heard a rumour that Groves had turned his attentions to Thorne.

Thorne was a used sub for yesterday's game against Walsall. But with the recent signing of Alan Lee, it is felt that Thorne's time at Ninian Park is over and a move away could be on the cards.

Thorne cost the Bluebirds £1,750,000 two years ago from Stoke City but has failed to hit the form that merited the move. A stumbling block could be the players wages with Groves looking to loan any target with a permanent move to follow. Thorne is a target man striker who's presence and strength in the air would be an ideal foil for Michael Boulding.

Barnsley are another club thought to be chasing the 30-year-old.

Mariners Net has denied the rumour although there is as of yet no official word from Groves.
