Injuries mounting for Vale trip

After Saturday's encouraging draw against Plymouth, Groves would have been hoping to keep together the same eleven for the trip to the Potteries.

That seems unlikely now with Aidan Davison, Darren Barnard, Alan Pouton and Darren Mansaram joining Stuart Campbell on the doubtful list.

Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside, starting with Darren Barnard, Groves spoke of the injury worries: "He came off because he had a sore calf that tightened up. Darren (Mansaram) came off because he had a sore back. Alan Pouton's come away with a stiff back as well.

"But hopefully Darren and Alan won't be too bad. Barney we'll have to look at perhaps a little later.

"Aiden's been nursing a knee now for probably two or three weeks and not been able to train.

"And Stuart Campbell's got a knee problem. They're the ones who are a major concern."

Any injury to Adian Davison will cause great concern to Groves as he only has rookie 'keeper Bradley Hughes as cover whilst Andy Pettinger recovers from his broken hand.

The return of Jason Crowe will help ease Groves' headache though. The versatile ex-Pompey man returns after a four match suspension.
