Jevvo back for reserves

Town's second string face Sheffield United at Chesterfield's Saltergate ground in the Pontins League Cup.

For Jevons, a reserve game is progress just months after he was told by chairman Peter Furneaux that he wouldn't even get a training kit.

With Jevons and manager Paul Groves close to agreeing a reduced contract, the former Everton man could be close to first team action then previously thought.

The injury last night to Jonny Rowan has left Groves even shorter of attacking options, neither David Soames or Liam Nimmo are in the reserve squad for fear of picking up injuries. Unless Groves can bring a loan striker in before Saturday, or Rowan recovers, Nimmo is likely to make his full debut against Chesterfield.

If a new deal can be thrashed out in time, Jevons could be involved in the squad but having only just returned from a seven week layoff, a start is unlikely.

Trialist Bobby Lawsam will also feature in the game as he bids to earn a contract.

Team: Hughes, Edwards, Parker, Wheeler, Young, Ward, Hildred, Newton, Jevons, Carchedi, Huckett. Subs: Lawson, Chamberlain, Davey.
