The giant centre-half injured his knee cartilage in the 1-1 draw against Boston. It was initially hoped that the problem would heal naturally, but now Slade is prepared to put the player under the knife.

"It's not going to heal on its own - we might have to trim the cartilage," Slade told BBC Radio Humberside.

"Certainly, they're going to have to open the knee up - and have a look inside to see what's aggravating it and making it lock."

Slade added: "From there, his rehabilitation will probably take about four weeks, so he could be out for about six in total."

Whilst short term contract player Dean Gordon will continue for the short term in Jones' place, new recruit Glen Downey and Greg Young will battle it out to take the starting role.
