The 34-year-old was an unused sub in the 0-0 draw at Peterborough last weekend as manager Paul Groves began plans to save his first choice right back.

Despite the worry, McDermott is determined to battle on until the end of the season before having an operation.

As part of his plan to play through the problem, McDermott will undetake core stability exercises to strengthen groin area.

"I might have to see a specialist at some point but I'm hoping that doing core stability work will help and strengthen it," he told the Grimsby Telegraph.

"It's all about doing sit ups and strengthening the pelvis area and groin area. It feels like I've been booted there sometimes.

"After games even lifting your legs up off the floor can be painful. But as long as it doesn't affect me during games I'm not bothered. I'll soldier on!"
