They are the results that shattered Sir Bill Shankly`s 52 year old record. Town started the roll with winning there last away game of last season destroying relegated Kidderminster 4-1, a game which saw Michael Reddy net a hatrick. They followed up that win by winning there first away game of the new season with Martin Gritton and Rob Jones netting late on to come from 1-0 down at Bristol Rovers.

The Mariners travelled to Pride Park, Derby for there Carling Cup first round encounter, and the team who lied 3rd in the Coca Cold Championship at the time failed to beat Grimsby, who pulled of a 1-0 win thanks to a marvellous Gary Jones volley in the 11th minute.

Calvin Andrew gave Grimsby a 1-o win with a header away at Barnet, the first ever meeting between the two clubs. The Mariners needed 1 more away win to equal Shankly`s Grimsby of 52 years ago, and goals from Jean-Paul Kamudimba Kalala and Michael Reddy gave Town a 2-1 win away at Chester City.
