Neddy!
Grimsby fan Simon Needham gives us his view on the clubs in our league, the players, the season so far and the season to come for Grimsby Town. The Mariners currently lie in 6th spot after 5 games, but are 4 points of leaders Notts County with a game in hand on everyone above them.

On the first day of the season The Mariners chucked away 3 points and had to settle for just the 1 when ex Mariner Chris Hargreaves struck late on for Oxford United after Tony Crane had scored his first goal for the club in over a year.

The club then went on to beat Bristol Rovers 2-1 away with late goals from

Martin Gritton and Rob Jones giving Town a much deserved away win. This was followed up however by a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Darlington, ex Sheffield Wednesday striker Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu scored a late penalty for Darlo in a game which saw Clyde Wijnhard of Darlington miss another penalty and Town's Tom Newey and Tony Crane sent off.

In the Carling Cup 1st round The Mariners looked far too physical for Championship Derby. The Rams struggled to even get the ball of Grimsby at times and Gary Jones formely of Derby's rivals Nottingham Forest was on hand to give Town a 1-0 win scoring in the 11th minute of the game.

In the two recent games over the bank holiday weekend, Grimsby picked up maximum points after knocking unbeaten Barnet of top spot in a scrapy affair at Underhill which saw on loan Luton striker Calvin Andrew head in the games only goal. It was Andrew again who put in a brilliant peformance on bank holiday monday, despite not scoring against Rushden And Diamonds, he was the man of the match, ousing confidence and skill. A 35 yard wonder goal from John McDermott and a penalty from new boy Jean-Paul Kamudimba Kalala easily saw of expected strugglers Rushden by 2 goals to nil.

NEDDY ON TOWN THIS SEASON!

1)Ok, Neddy, obviously you know me, and I know you all to well, so for those people who don't know you, tell us a little about you?- "Ive followed Town since I was a nipper, I am 19 years old and live in Gainsborough"

2)How do you think Town will do this season? "I would like to think promotion, but I think we might have to settle for the play offs"

3)Are you impressed by the summer signings Slade has made, and is it a vast improvement on last seasons team. "The defence looks weaker, but Rob Jones has come on leaps and bounds, with Forbes I feel though we could have walked the league. I am very impressed with Tom Newey and Paul Bolland"

4)Who do you think out of the remaining players from last season has improved the most. "That's easy Rob Jones"

5)Which new boy are you most impressed by at the current time? " Tom Newey, Paul Bolland and Steve Mildenhall for his clean sheets, all credit to the defence though"

6)Who do you tip for promotion and the play off spots? "Wycombe to win, Darlington 2nd, Bristol Rovers 3rd, Grimsby 4th, Oxford 5th, Northampton 6th and Chester City 7th"

7)Who do you dislike in the league and for what reason? "Lincoln City for obvious reasons, local rivalry and because they can't play proper football, there a bunch of hoofers, and Boston United for being the leagues only Non League team"

8)Who do you tip for relegation this term?" Shrewsbury Town and Bury"

9)Will we miss anyone from last season's team? " Terrell Forbes, he is quality"

10)What players in the team are you unsure about, or make you nervous? "Tony Crane because of his disciplinary, Terry Barwick because he is ex Scunny and he looks dodgy and Martin Gritton because of his lack of ball control"

11)Who would you most like to stuff 10-0?"Lincoln, everytime"

12)Who do you think will finish top goalscorer and the end of the season and why?"I would like to think Reddy, but he hasn't started of very well, has he, hopefully there is more to come"

13)Can we put a good cup run together or will we flop? "It is going to be hard with a wafer thin squad, most teams who tend to have a good cup run seem to struggle towards the end of the season in the league, so it dosen't bother me if we have a good one or not"

14)Who is the current best Goalkeeeper? "Steve Mildenhall"

15)Who is the current best rock at the back we have? "Rob "LANKBAG" Jones or Tom Newey
