Portsmouth agreed, along with everyone else in the Football League, that those going into the Premier League should pay a parachute payment of £100,000 to one of the teams relegated from the first division.

Oi, Milan! Cough up.
Whilst Brighton and Sheffield Wednesday's coffers were boosted by Leicester and Wolves, Portsmouth opted against the agreement and left Town wondering why.

Town are still left cap in hand in front of Portsmouth but are looking less likely to get the £100,000 previously agreed.

But that's no worry for Portsmouth, instead they spent £100,000 to loan Newcastle's Lomana LuaLua for three months and an 'agency fee' to sign John Curtis from Leicester on a free transfer.

Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric announced the signing and admits he would like to sign LuaLua on a permanent basis.....but after you give us the bloody money, yes?

"We've paid a £100,000 loan fee and have him for the season. We'll keep talking to Newcastle to make a decision about a possible long-term relationship with LuaLua," Mandaric told the BBC.
