Pride and payback on the agenda

The feeling in the Town is still a dissappointed one after the shameful defeat on Friday, tonight gives Groves' troops a chance for small redemption...one they must take.

Groves has labelled the game as a challenge, a challenge of his players resilience and mental attitude, this is a game he has to win.

"I think the way you turn things round is by treating the next game as a challenge - and by rising to that challenge," he told the Grimsby Telegraph.

Groves - Needs this win
"I will not accept people throwing the towel in, and that's certainly how it looked.

"We have to pull together, work extremely hard to put things right and show some mental strength.

"Professional pride also needs to be restored. Players should be proud to wear our shirt. They have a duty to the fans to perform well - especially after the debacle at Hartlepool.

"The game is a good opportunity to try and put things right in front of our home fans.

"It is a big ask, especially after what happened at Hartlepool, but it's important that we turn things around quickly."

Groves continued to keep his cards close to his chest regarding team selection. The player-boss had warned that youngsters would be brought in for failing seniors, that threat may not be carried out.

"When something happens like the Hartlepool game, you can do one of two things," he added.

"You can play the same team and tell the players they have got to dig themselves out of the hole, or you can make wholesale changes.

"I have been looking at them in training to see if they have been saying 'I have had a poor game, but I want the opportunity to put it right' - they can do that by the manner in which they train."
