Rankin: Lets keep it going

The scenario for Town is dead simple, win and we stay up. If Town take three points from Prenton Park other results will be irrelevant. A draw or even a defeat could still see Town stay up but both are reliant on other results.

After the 1-0 win over Brentford, with Rankin getting the goal, the striker is hoping the confidence booster will serve Town well.

"It was a great win for us," Rankin told the Grimsby Telegraph.

"We've kept faith in what we have been doing and, with the fans behind us today, it gave us a lift with everyone rooting for the same thing.

"Hopefully now we can keep going for one more game."

Reflecting back on the game Rankin praised supersub Graham Hockless for his assist, goalkeeper Alan Fettis for his first half one handed wonder save and the general character of the team.

"I remember the ball came in to me and I played it out wide to Hocko. He faced the full-back up and whipped in a great cross and, luckily for me, I arrived to connect with a header which has fallen into the back of the net.

"We started very well and kept the pressure on.

"But then at 0-0 in the first half, Fets pulled off a great save to keep it level.

"We kept plugging away though, we didn't shy away from the game and showed a lot of character to keep going.

"I think we deserved the victory today and we go to Tranmere now, full of confidence and hoping to get something out of the game."
