With the unnamed snubbing of the position today, Town have acted quickly with Slade thought to be high on the list.

Slade did apply for the job when it became available but it is not thought he was considered at first.

The Grimsby Telegraph reports that he will be now given an interview with the signs looking good in his favour.

Slade is no stranger to league football following spells with Notts County and as caretaker boss for Sheffield United.

The Telegraph also reports that Steve Cotterill is another in line but the Leicester coach is unlikely to quit his position at the Walkers Stadium and has not applied for the job.

In other news Peter Furneaux has confirmed that Nicky Law won't be getting the managers job after his ermm unsuccessful spell in charge. Thank fuck for that!
