Is Digger Next?
Mariners boss Russell Slade could chop more youth out of the decreasing squad at Blundell Park and the few that are left should feel worried.

David Soames(pictured),Paul Fraser,Nick Heggarty and Danny North are the only remaning recent youth talent left at the club and any of these would find it hard to find a semi-pro side let alone a professional side as they are all not mature enough.

Soames made his breakthrough 2 years ago and scored once in 11 apperances. Last season he popped in around 10 sub apperances but failed to hit the net. Injury problems is a big excuse for the lad they call Digger, however this season he has failed to even make the bench and last appeared in the 1-0 pre-season friendly win at Gainsborough Trinity.

Paul Fraser was the 5th choice keeper the same year Soames broke through but never made an apperance or made the bench. Last season he was not given a professional contract and he was sunk back into the youth team before re-emerging as the second fiddle to Anthony Williams this season.

Also on the short list of youngsters are midfielder Nick Heggarty and striker Danny North who were both added to the squad a month or two into the current campaign. Heggarty has established himself well in the reserves. As has 17 year old Danny North who has made the bench 2 or 3 times this season after the departure of Marcelle,Mansaram and Cramb.

Russell needs to re-think his plans and where the young talent could possibly take this club.
