Mendonca is a legend at both clubs and it was only natural for the club to invite Clive to witness the game as a special guest of honour.

After leaving Town for Charlton in 1997, Clive wrote his name in Charlton folklore with a hat-trick against hometown club Sunderland in the play-off final to send the Addicks into the Premier League.

After an impressive start in the Premiership, injury took ahold and any plans Clive had of progressing to greater things were dashed.

His last visit to Blundell Park was in Novemeber 1999, hitting a brace in Charlton's  5-2 win over Town.
