The end of the line?

I've backed Groves every step of the way. When people blamed him for relegation from Division One, I blamed ITV Digital. When people blamed him for the poor start to the season, I said give them time. Sadly my support for Groves will go on further.

I now call on Groves to do the decent thing and walk away from the job. He is no longer fit enough to manage this club. He will take us down again. Yesterday we wasn't just outplayed by a team five points adrift at the bottom of the division, they took the piss out of us.

I'm sick to the teeth of hearing how the season will start here, we're on the verge of doing something. Funny how our best form is just round the corner, isn't it?

With credit to Groves, he has built a more than capable squad for this division. The signings of Crowe, Crane, Edwards and Davison especially have proved more than shrewd. With this squad we should be in the play-offs positions, at least. Instead we're struggling, playing crap week in, week out and at this rate heading for relegation.

Starting with yesterday, the first point that needs raising is the playing of McDermott at leftback. Greg Young was superb at Peterborough, in fact the whole defence was. There was no need to change that defence. Not for a player who is suffering with a hernia problem and in recent games has struggled. Especially not to play him out of position.

The bench again was a joke. Ford, Young and Groves. With 60% of the subs we've managed to name 3 centre backs. Ok Young can also play leftback, Groves was a decent midfielder (4 years ago) and Ford has played fullback before. But Only one of those should be needed. Where was Graham Hockless and David Soames? Ash Hildred, Wes Parker? Young players who are A) versatile and B) hungry.

The performance is down to the players, nothing can hide that fact. But will the players who bottled the battle be dropped for the Plymouth game? No. For me all that didn't show any fight (that's everyone but Davison, Edwards, Jevons and Onuora) should be dropped. The rest were a downright disgrace and how they can pick up their wages after that will amaze me.

All season Town have lacked genuine creativity in the team. That problem has been answered a little with the re-selection of Phil Jevons, although out of position. By far the most creative player at the club is Graham Hockless. Yet he now struggles to make the squad for games. Why? In the few chances he's had, he performed. He looked our best player on most occasions yet he is still not close to the first team.

Many people still believe that Groves is the best man for the job, that's their opinion and I will respect that. But my opinion is that Groves is taking us down. We lack ideas, effective tactics, correct team selection, decent motivation and most importantly for the paying public, we're boring!

Goodbye, Mr Groves.
