Simon Ramsden and Graham Hockless were left out due to injury whilst Greg Young was dropped to the bench in favour of Tony Crane.

Up front Andy Parkinson replaced, as did Darren Mansaram. The return of Flash looks to be the strongest inclination yet that he will sign the contract placed before him.

The opening ten minutes Town looked comfortable with Parkinson and Soames causing problems with their pace.

However Scunny soon settled and the physical presence of Steve Torpey up front was one that Town struggle to deal with.

Williams had to be on his game on more than one occasion to prevent the Iron scoring, preventing both Hayes and Torpey at point blank range.

Williams looked a lot more settled than he had in previous games despite the poor defending in front of him.

Jones look solid enough in the centre of the three man defence but it was the distribution of Crane and Whittle alongside him that brough the worries. On numerous occasions they pondered over the simple ball too long and lost possession. When they didn't ponder they just hoofed it along the touchline expecting Parkinson or Soames to produce miracles.

Mansaram was his usual frustrating himself. Failing to control the ball one moment, threatening to run riot the next. Quick play and a fine cross from Parkinson presented Flash with a great chance but his free header went wide.

At the break Soames limped off to be replaced by Ashley Sestanovich. The loanee didn't have the best of starts, getting pushed off the ball by Peter Beagrie before bottling a challenge moments later.

Sestanovich did settle though and looked one of Town's better players in the second half. Dropping slightly off the front two he used his pace and height well. His control and vision released Mansaram but the out of contract striker ran into a tight angle and fired pathetically wide.

Town fans got their first glimpse of Thomas Pinault when the Frenchman replaced Coldicott. The little man showed plenty of flair and creativity in his play but seemed to be lacking any defensive awareness.

Scunny should have scored at some point but their actions in front of goal were summed up by Torpey's downward headed that bounced over the goal.

The fans were spared the boredom of another 30 minutes as the game went straight to penalties. Parkinson, Mansaram, Pinault and Sestanovich all scored for Town with Beagrie, Crosby, Hayes and Baraclough netting for Scunny. The Iron's fifth penalty from Torpey hit the post giving Tony Crane the chance to seal the win.

Crane made no run up and fired an awful penalty allowing Musselwhite to make a save. Cleveland Taylor strode up to score for the Iron meaning John McDermott had to score, he missed leaving Scunny to go through to the final.

Town: Williams, Whittle, Jones, Crane, Bull, Crowe, Fleming, Coldicott, Soames, Mansaram, Parkinson. Used Subs: McDermott (Bull), Sestanovich (Soames), Pinault (Coldicott).

Man of the Match - Andy Parkinson. The former Tranmere man looked Town's only real threat for most of the game. His pace and willingness to run will cause problems in this league, it's if his team-mates can help out that will affect Town's season.
