Brenford moved three points clear of Town with a 3-2 win over promotion chasing Port Vale. Goals from Jay Tabb, Stephen Hunt and Tony Rougier were enough to seal the win, despite Stephen McPhee's brace.

Chesterfield pulled off the shock off the day to move within 2 points of the Mariners. With QPR visiting Saltergate, an away win was expected. Tony Thorpe and Steve Palmer struck for the Hoops. But goals from Leeds loanee Jamie McMaster, Ian Evatt, Glynn Hurst and Mark Hudson gave them an excellent 4-2 win.

Tranmere continued to move away from the danger zone after a 1-1 draw at Colchester. Rovers now sit 6 points ahead of Town. Eugene Dadi's goal looked to be enough for the win at Layer Road. Former Charlton trainee Kemi Izzet's late goal saw to that.

Town's opponents for next Sunday, Oldham will be looking for revenge after they were hammered 4-1 at Rushden & Diamonds. Rodney Jack and Onandi Lowe had alreayd given Brian Talbot's side a two goal lead before Jermaine Johnson pulled one back, ten minutes after the break. Further goals from Andy Burgess and Paul Hall made it a comfortable ride for Irtlhingborough's finest.

The big relegation battle of the day saw Stockport entertain Peterborough. One time Town target Clive Platt put through his own net after 12 minutes to cancel out Curtis Woodhouse's early opener. Rickie Lambart gave the home side the lead on 26 minutes only for Andy Clarke to level the scores four minutes later. After a frantic 30 minutes there was no more goals and the game ended 2-2.

Friday's game saw Wycombe take a point from Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. Ian Simpemba gave the Chairboys a second minute lead. Adam Proudlock made it 1-1 in the second half.

Town now sit a worrying two points away from the relegation places, but do have a vital two games in hand over those surrounding teams. Town could in fact find themselves in the bottom three by 5pm next Saturday. What is essential though is a win next Sunday against Oldham. Anything less will be seen as a failure.
