"I'm very pleased with the attitude, very pleased with the work-rate and the competitiveness," he said.

"The pitch was very poor. It limited the football that anybody could play on it. I think everyone knows we'd like to knock the ball around and work it a bit more but you couldn't do it on there, it was very soft and very boggy.

"Overall I think it's a fair result. We didn't start very well and Bradford did, but the massive plus out of that is six or eight weeks ago we would have lost that game.

"We'd have lost in the first 10 or 15 minutes, but we showed some character, we defended well, we got blocks in and did that stuff that does not catch the eye, and I think that shows we're going in the right direction."
